Lot Protection for Home Building

ProWattle™ is installed around the perimeter of home construction sites to filter and slow sediment laden water and prevent movement of soil onto the streets and eventually offsite. ProWattle is “L” shaped with a rugged jacket.  It resists the typical BMP abuse found in vertical home construction by flexing back and forth in traffic.  Over 65 different trades and 250 individuals work to build a home.  Materials and crews generate a lot of traffic across the stormwater BMPs.  ProWattle stands up to this abuse and typically 80% can be moved to a future phase to be used again.  Total cost to protect lots shrinks from reduced maintenance, material purchases and because ProWattle performs better, street sweeping is significantly reduced.

ProWattle changes the way sediment is controlled on-site for homebuilders.  High overhead mechanized crew not required for installation and maintenance.  Perimeter maintenance averages less than 6 min per week per lot under construction.  When removed by landscapers after final grading, greater than 80% of the material can be stockpiled for reuse.  Drastically lower overall costs – one installation with no additional purchases, less maintenance,  and significantly less on-site sweeping.   There is very high environmental sustainability—nothing goes to landfills

Home construction is highly unforgiving to Storm Water BMPs due to the high sub-contractor count, length of time between land development and landscaping phases, very high foot and vehicular traffic, trenching around the pads and curbs, installation of sidewalks, driveways, utility posts, and mail pads, etc.  During home building, silt fence, fiber rolls (wattles) or fiber blankets are quickly destroyed in foot or vehicular traffic.  Slumping wattles or blankets provide no freeboard height to keep flows from reaching the street and storm drains creating the need for constant sweeping.  Wattles, blankets or silt fence typically needs to be replaced four to five times during a subdivision build-out.  ProWattle can overcome the above concerns, provide better sediment control and an economic advantage for the home builder.

“ERTEC products and trade training form a comprehensive package that allows us to change the way we manage our construction sites.  We can complete a multi-year project with one BMP installation, and then minimal additional material purchases.  We have seen improved sediment control performance at lower costs.  There’s also an important trend for builders to move towards environmentally friendly products such as ERTEC.”  – Terry Tondre, VP Construction – History Maker Homes.

“ERTEC’s systems were challenged recently in downpours that temporarily closed the nearby DFW airport.  Our site, which previously had been a challenge with difficult soils on multi-elevations was in great shape afterward.  I was impressed with ERTEC’s performance while nearby sites using alternative technologies were faced with significant cleanup after the storm.”  – Bill Arnold, Storm Water Inspector – History Maker Homes.
